Todra Gorge Climbing: Morocco's Big-Wall Sport Climbing Hub
Routes, seasons, guidebooks and where to stay for a climbing trip in Todra Gorge.

Todra Gorge is a 300-metre-deep limestone slot canyon east of the Atlas Mountains. Since the 1980s it has become the most developed climbing area in Morocco — over 400 bolted sport routes from 5a to 8b on solid orange and grey limestone.
Season
October to April. Summer is unclimbably hot (45°C); winter mornings are cold but the south-facing walls warm quickly. The best months are November and March.

Sectors
- Mansour — easy slabs and warm-ups, 4c–6a.
- Pillar of the Couple — classic 6a–6c verticals.
- Petit Gorge — afternoon shade, 6b–7b.
- Elephant — overhanging powerful 7a+ and up.
Logistics
Fly into Marrakech or Ouarzazate, then drive 4–5 hours east to Tinghir. Stay at one of the climber-friendly hotels at the mouth of the gorge — Hotel Yasmina or Auberge le Festival. Rooms from 250 MAD per night. Local guides are available for 600–900 MAD per day.
Gear
60-metre rope is sufficient for most routes; 70 m is useful for the longer lines in Petit Gorge. Bring 14 quickdraws and a helmet.
Rest Days
Day-hike the gorge from end to end, drive to the Dades Valley, or take a day trip to Merzouga (3 hours each way) for a sand dune contrast.
